Building Big Business in the Wake of GBS

The construction company was the busiest we had ever been when I contracted GBS. I was still assisting with initial documentation for projects that we were performing construction management on.

The year before we had elevated our senior project manager to president of the company, this will be important in the months and years that follow due to the fact he was able to provide visionary leadership into the company once I contracted GBS.

The week before I contracted GBS I logged 70 hours on just one of two major projects I was responsible for and the senior account executive on both. One was still in design development and the other was nearly ready to bid so the company and myself were working hard and long hours to get these projects launched and moving forward.

When GBS hit me as quick as it did there was no way to turn management or control of the projects over properly. The company staff picked up the mantle and never missed a beat, for this I’m forever grateful for those hard working individuals.

For the next two years I spent less than 20 days inside the company offices. The calendar year for 2016 and 2017 were two of the three highest grossing volumes and net profit years for the company we have ever had.

I suppose this was God's way of telling me to get out of the way and let those who were as capable or more capable than I do what they are good at. I have continued to allow that to happen and the company has flourished.

Throughout the next few blog articles I will be sharing how I’ve overcome leadership challenges and difficulties in building these businesses. I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to provide some sense of knowledge that can help in your own business and resiliency efforts, if anything I’ve at least enjoyed being able to tell my story.
